In and Around Orlando: May 2013 Family Activities
We’ve put together a list of fun family activities to do in and around Orlando this May. If you’re heading to one of our lovely vacation homes during the month of May make sure to get the family together and explore a few of these festivals and events.
May 4th & 5th – Legoland Florida- Junior Master Model Builder Competition
Is your child an expert with Legos? Visit Legoland Florida in Winter Haven on either of these days and they can participate in this competition. Even if you’re not looking to enter the competition I’m sure the displays are worth your while! The theme for May is the Yoda Chronicles. Check the Legoland website for more details.

May 15th – 19th – Cirque de Soleil’s Quidam
If you have not yet had the privilege of being in the audience of a Cirque de Soleil show, here is your opportunity! Quidam tells the story of a young girl’s escape into an imaginary world. A show for the whole family the cast of Quidam includes over 50 acrobats, musicians and singers.You can purchase your tickets via the Cirque de Soleil website.

May 15th 28th 22nd – Annual Orlando Fringe Theater Festival
Did you know that Orlando’s Fringe Festival is the longest running in the USA? The Festival has theater shows for the whole family and even a Beer Tent for Dad. Plus, with all the proceeds of ticket sales going back to the artists, attending a fringe show is a great way to support the performing arts. May 19th – Ironman 70.3 Florida
Support the athletes in Florida’s official half-ironman event in Haines City. If you feel the urge to swim 1.2 miles, cycle 56 miles and then run 13.1 miles there is still time to register, just go to the Ironman website and hit the button if you dare. But, even standing at the sidelines cheering these ‘ironmen’ on you’ll feel a rush of adrenaline.

May 24th – Sanford Art Walk
Starting from the Historic Sanford Welcome Centre, this monthly walk is dedicated to promoting the arts and culture of Sanford and invites you to visit all galleries within walking distance who participate in the event. After have a drink and a bite to eat in one of historic Sanford’s bars, pubs or restaurants. Check the Art Walk website closer to your visit for details of this month’s participating artists.

May 31st June 2nd – Blue Skies and Silver Spurs Festival
The 131st Silver Spurs Rodeo is joined for the first time by events taking place in the sky and on the ground in this exciting new festival. If you have ever wanted to ride in a hot air balloon here is your chance, as rides will be available during the festival. Further details are available on the Visit Kissimmee website.
